Wiggle Worms: A Bible Story for Kids About Sitting Still in Church

Episode 17 of LJ & Family, a free animated Christian cartoon for kids ages 3–10. Watch the 3:45 video together, then use the free family guide, Sunday school lesson plan and coloring page below.

Being still and listeningPsalm 46:103:45

The story

It’s Sunday morning, and LJ’s feet just won’t stop swinging. He wiggles left and right, his crayons roll under the pew, and he misses the whole Bible story. Mom reminds him there’s a time to be still, and Dad tells how he was a wiggle worm too, the day his shoe flew off into the church aisle. Big sister Jakayla helps LJ get his wiggles out with jumping jacks and still-as-a-statue. The next Sunday, LJ puts his hands in his lap, his eyes on Pastor and his ears wide open, and he hears every word. Grandma tells the story of young Samuel, who lay still and listened when God called his name.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”Psalm 46:10 (WEB)

Talk about it and pray together

Talk about it

  1. Why did LJ miss the Bible story at church? Do you ever feel like a wiggle worm?
  2. Dad learned a trick: hands in your lap, eyes on the speaker, ears wide open. Can you try it right now?
  3. Samuel lay still and listened when God called. When could you be still and listen this week?

Pray together

God, thank You for my wiggles and all my energy. Help me know when it’s time to be still. Open my ears to hear You, like young Samuel did. Amen.
